Machrie Bay Golf Club – May 2015 I was staying across the road from Machrie Bay Golf Course with the current Captain Douglas at his B&B. I had booked to stay with Douglas and his wife Piet as they are both golf enthusiasts and Piet is the Secretary at Shiskine which was why I was on the Isle of Arran in the first place.
Machrie Bay is a wee nine hole course that overlooks the sea on the west coast of the Isle of Arran. As Douglas and I started our round teeing off on the 7th. The 9th hole plays across the road and as long as you keep an eye out for cars before you hit, you are fine.
I was chipping and pitching really well and dropping some great putts. Douglas and I were very close and as we teed off on the 6th (our final hole) I was ahead by one stroke. I drove well then was a little directionally challenged with my 3w then out of the rough I went across the fairway into the rough near the green. Just taking the scenic route.
Was a wonderful morning and Douglas beat me by one stroke. The course is quite flat but has a few obstacles to navigate around and who doesn’t love the Scottish gorse?
